AFTER LISTING SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PROGRAMMATIC SPACES NEEDED TO DESIGN THE SPORTS FACILITY, I HAD TO CLASSIFIED EACH ONE OF THEM AND DECIDED WHAT SHOULD, MUST, OR WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE NEXT TO EACH OTHER.
THE 19 MOST IMPORTANT SPACES I CHOSE WERE:
LOBBY STORAGE CARDIO ROOM
NURSE FITNESS ROOM CLASS STUDIO
NURSE FITNESS ROOM CLASS STUDIO
RECEPTION SOCCER COURT SUN DECK
GYMNASIUM TENNIS COURT WORK-STATION
LOCKER ROOM OFFICES CAFE
POOLS DAYCARE BATHROOM
LAUNDRY ROOM
This is a great start. I would suggest at looking at your precedents for program of spaces. When you make a matrix like that is good to start thinking how a user walks thru the building. What is the first space a guest encounters. You are going to need a lobby. Administration should be close to the lobby. Than I proceed to the locker rooms. There should be a place to get towels. You will need a laundry room.
ReplyDeleteFrom than on I move to the sports facility you would like to have.
Based on your site analysis, and community evaluation, what does REDHOOK need? This is a site next to the water. Is there any water sports you would like to include. How are you taking advantage of this amazing location. Do you have a dock? How do you accomodate for the canoes? Swimming?
Also look at the brooklyn bridge park and what they offer. In the master plan - the waterfront path would connect the Brooklyn bridge parks to Redhook. This could provide a physical connection and also promote the outdoor exercise. Yes - there are races in the River. There is a race around Liberty Island among others.
